STIM-mediated calcium influx regulates maintenance and selection of GC B cells (Baba-Kurosaki G, in JEM)

PRESS RELEASE

Germinal centers (GCs) are specialized microenvironments where antigen-specific B cells undergo antibody affinity maturation and clonal expansion. However, the requirements of BCR signaling in GC B cells remain poorly understood.  Yoshihiro Baba (Kyushu University), Tomohiro Kurosaki (Lymphocyte Differentiation, IFReC) and the research group showed that  stromal interacting molecule (STIM)-deficient B cells have reduced B cell competitiveness compared to wild-type B cells during GC responses.
