Principal Investigators (PIs) at IFReC are from the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences and the Graduate School of Engineering.
Consequently, the laboratory you wish to research in require a different postgraduate course. To become a postgraduate student at IFReC, it is a good idea to determine which laboratory you have an interest in and which instructor before deciding which postgraduate course is the best choice. See the individual graduate school websites for details on examination dates. Every year in May, IFReC holds a seminar for interested postgraduate students and postdoc researchers.
In principle, in order to do research at IFReC, postgraduate study at the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences or Graduate School of engineering is required. In order to do so, it is advisable to take examinations to a school that allows entrance to one of these graduate schools. For example, to enter the Graduate School of Engineering it is best to first enter the School of Engineering. It is possible to enter from other universities and other departments. If you have a strong desire to research at IFReC, gather as much information as you can beforehand.
The purpose of this program is to support international researchers in order to promote the globalization and development of immunological research at IFReC. The fellowship was set up in 2008 by IFReC Professor Tadamitsu Kishimoto (former president of Osaka University) who discovered interleukin-6 (IL-6), a vital molecule in the research and treatment of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and developer of an IL-6 receptor antibody, Tocilizumab.
IFReC offers outstanding young researchers opportunities to work with field-leading researchers as well as to conduct their own research and publish under their own merit. The Center has established the Advanced Postdoc system and is recruiting promising young researchers in fields of immunology and cell biology.
