Local administration of Tregs promotes tissue healing (Martino & Akira G, in Nat Commun)
PRESS RELEASE
Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are crucial immune cells for tissue repair and regeneration. However, their potential as a cell-based regenerative therapy is not yet fully understood.
Collaborating with Prof. Shizuo Akira (Host Defense, IFReC/Center for Advanced Modalities and DDS, Osaka University), a research team led by Dr. Mikaël Martino from Monash University published a significant advancement in regenerative medicine. In this study, the team showed the mice given Tregs showed enhanced bone volume and coverage over injured cranial areas, higher amounts of muscle tissue and larger muscle fiber size, and faster skin wound closure.
