Shizuo Akira, Director of WPI-IFReC visited Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang-city, Korea on November 11-12, and concluded Academic Cooperation Agreement.

The agreement aims at promoting cooperation in the fields of academic researches between IFReC and two departments of POSTECH ('Life Science' and 'Integrative Biosciences & Biotechnology'). Under the agreement,we have reached to start mutual interaction through joint researches and symposia, etc.

Through sufficient financial supports from POSCO (Pohang Iron and Steel Company), POSTECH quickly became a pioneer among Korean universities in terms of success in the implementation of revolutionary administrative, education and research reforms. As a result of continuous efforts, POSTECH is regarded as a leading university in the fields of science and technology not only in Korea but also in Asia.

In the campus of POSTECH, the International Center equipped with some conference rooms and hotel, huge library that can be used by citizens (24 hours a day), and apartments where all researchers can stay, have been built. From facilities tour at POSTECH, participants from IFReC had much to learn from one of the world class research centers.
