The Japanese government recently announced the winners of this autumn's Medal of Honor. Prof. Taroh Kinoshita of IFReC won the Medal with Purple Ribbon, which is awarded to people who have made outstanding contributions in academic fields, arts and sports.

Prof. Kinoshita and his laboratory are focusing on the research of glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins (GPI-anchored proteins). The group has been trying to reveal how GPI-anchored proteins are synthesized, processed, transported and secreted, and how defects in these processes lead to the onset and pathology of diseases. They have made considerable achievements in this field.
Kinoshita laboratory is known as the center of the GPI anchor researches in the world.
