Prof. Shimon Sakaguchi Awarded the Order of Culture

The Japanese government announced that it has selected Prof. Shimon Sakaguchi (Experimental Immunology, IFReC) to receive the Order of Culture.

This prestigious award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Japan's science, art, or anything related to culture. Prof. Sakaguchi is being awarded for his outstanding achievements in his studies of Regulatory T cells (Treg), and discovering and clarifying the roles of Treg in autoimmune diseases and allergies.

This is the second time a scientist at IFReC is being honored with the Order of Culture after Prof. Tadamitsu Kishimoto (Immune Regulation, IFReC) in 1998.

The award ceremony is scheduled for November 3, 2019 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
