On December 1, Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim Co., Ltd. announced the winners of the 58th Erwin von Bälz Prize (for FY2021) and held a presentation ceremony. Professor Hisashi Arase (IFReC/RIMD, Osaka University) was awarded First Prize for the theme "Regulation Mechanisms for Viral Infections."

The Erwin von Bälz Prize was established in 1964 by Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim Co., Ltd., a German-based pharmaceutical company, with the aim of deepening friendship between Germany and Japan and supporting medical research in Japan.
