Prof. Taroh Kinoshita (Immunoglycobiology, IFReC/RIMD Osaka University) was chosen as an awardee of the 5th Hayaishi Memorial Prize 2021.

The award committee commented that Prof. Kinoshita has made considerable achievements in the research field of GPI (glycosylphosphatidylinositol)-anchored protein, a series of proteins anchored to the cell membrane. Prof. Kinoshita and his group clarified the mechanism of biosynthesis and translocation of GPI-anchored proteins, and identified most of the genes involved in the process.
