Next Gen Immunology in Health and Disease
The Immunology Frontier Research Center, Osaka University (IFReC) will hold an international symposium entitled the Next Gen Immunology in Health and Disease. The symposium invites top level researchers working at the frontline of immunology research in both Japan and overseas and is an excellent opportunity to introduce the latest research outcomes for both basic, applied and clinical research in immunology. In recent years, there is greater recognition of the importance of basic research into drug discovery, therefore, this international symposium welcomes the participation of clinical researchers and corporate researchers in order to create connections with academic researchers.
大阪大学・免疫学フロンティア研究センター(IFReC)では、Next Gen Immunology in Health and Disease
WPI - Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC), Osaka University
Osaka University Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC) was selected by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan in 2007 as one of the nation's elite World Premier International (WPI) Research Centers. The goal of IFReC is to understand comprehensively the immune system, which is regulated by many molecules and immune cells functioning simultaneously, by visualizing the behavior, activation status, and interaction of the molecules and cells in vivo, through interdisciplinary research of immunology, imaging science, and bioinformatics. (The IFReC logo is made from three "i"s, symbolizing the fusion of immunology, imaging, and informatics.) Since establishment in 2007, IFReC has engaged in high-level research that is expected to make it an internationally renowned immunology research center. The scientific level of IFReC is demonstrated in a number of publications (198 papers, 12%) in top journals (IF>14) out of a total number of publications (1,545 papers) and in the ratio 4.7% of top 1% papers in the term between 2008 and 2017. IFReC has secured a financial foundation to assure the curiosity driven research of IFReC researchers with significant financial support from the companies of Chugai and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. under comprehensive collaboration agreements for 10 years from 2017.
IFReC is composed of thirty groups encompassing top researchers from Japan and abroad, including two Gairdner Award winners, Prof. Shizuo Akira and Prof. Shimon Sakaguchi. A spirit of true internationalization is a founding principle of IFReC, and the center is committed to the realization of innovative accomplishments in immunology through interdisciplinary and international collaborations between immunology and other fields.
