The Japanese government announced that Prof. Masahiro Yamamoto (Immunoparasitology, IFReC, RIMD) won the Japan Medical R&D Grand Prize.

The government commented Prof. Yamamoto was awarded by his outstanding achievements in the studies of "the elucidation mechanism of host immune system against the pathogenic parasite infections". Using Toxoplasma infection as a model, his group has revealed the ingenious mechanism of the evolved host immune system. A new treatment strategy by the cutting-edge parasitic immunology is expected.

The award ceremony was held at the office of the Prime Minister on December 27, 2018.
