The International Symposium by IFReC and IVI (International Vaccine Institute) was held on September 18-19, 2009.

In 1990's, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) selected the Republic of Korea as the host for the International Vaccine Institute. Since its establishment, the IVI has been playing a leading role as one of the world's major research institutes, especially in the field of vaccination for children.

In this joint symposium, recent progresses in the field of innate immunity were vigorously discussed by top Korean immunologists and researchers of IFReC including Professor Akira. Furthermore, young Japanese and Korean researchers performed oral and poster presentations.
